The Gemmell Awards shortlist has been announced. Voting on the Gemmell Awards is open to the public. Voting on the shortlist opened today and closes on Friday, June 1. The awards will be presented at Edge-Lit 7 on Saturday, July 14.
I read and reviewed a number of works on the shortlist this year.
Legend Award
The Legend Award is given for the best fantasy book of the year and is named for the late David Gemmell’s first and most famous book. I reviewed one book on the shortlist, with one review to come.
The Fall of Dragons by Miles Cameron – 5 of 5 Stars

Morningstar Award
The Morningstar Award is given for the best fantasy debut of the year. I reviewed three books on the shortlist, presented below in descending order of awesomeness.
Blackwing by Ed McDonald – 5 of 5 Stars
Age of Assassins by R.J. Barker – 4.5 of 5 Stars
The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso – 4 of 5 Stars

I…didn’t know the trophy looked liked that. That’s kind of amazing. And Blackwing was truly unique! I absolutely loved the noir feel of it.

You really need to read Kings Of The Wyld. This is the first awards list I’ve remotely liked.

So everyone keeps saying! I have copies of Kings of the Wyld and The Court of Broken Knives, so I’m definitely planning to get those read and reviewed before voting closes.

Yes! A strong list this year. In the debut list, I agree that Blackwing is slightly ahead of Age of Assassins, both very good.
