First Trailer for Dark Phoenix

The X-Men movies just aren’t as good as the MCU movies.  But I still prefer them, because the X-Men are what I grew up reading and because the X-Men are simply better grist than the Avengers.  For all its faults, I still like X-Men: Apocalypse because it reminds me of the X-Men comics I grew up reading.

Apocalypse is also obvious in setting up what will be the movie franchise’s second crack at the Dark Phoenix Saga after badly bobbling it in X-Men: The Last Stand.

It isn’t going to stop my from dragging my wife along for a V-Day X-Men date, but I am skeptical.  The talent of James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender hasn’t allowed for great X-Men movie yet (the only great X-Men movie is Logan).  And I still have serious doubts about Sophie Turner’s acting chops.  But they have great source material, and that is the first step.  His role in the trailer notwithstanding, I also hold out hope that Magneto won’t continue to dominate the franchise in the way he has so far.

Dark Phoenix (no X-Men in the title, as best I can tell) gets its theatrical release on February 14, 2019–so romantic!

Well, it can’t be any more “eh” than Wonderwoman was.

I liked Wonder Woman! But as an X-Men movie, it would suffer badly from really focusing on Jean Gray rather than the ensemble.

I was expecting some great movie with WW and it was just ok. It wasn’t bad at all but it was NOT the second coming as every review I saw for it seemed to indicate.

I’ve never been a team guy in regards to comics, so avengers, xmen, justice league, they’re all the same to me. Give me a standalone hero every time…

Hmmm. Well, let’s see what they come up with. As you say, they bobbled it badly in The Last Stand; maybe they can get this one right.

As someone who still has the original comics, I’m not sure I’ll bother watching this version of the Dark Phoenix.
